Title
Pierrot Lunaire22/08/2011
dodecaphonic flying carpet
Dedicated to Arnold Schoenberg and the "tonal liberation of dissonance" (M. Mila), Pierrot Lunaire is a great armchair, a sort of magic carpet that seeks to represent the violent contrasts of modernity. The very symbol of 20th century brutality, it is a tribute to the great season of the avant-gardes. The curved and sinuous lines of the seat are pierced by sharp, angular forms and the softness of the upholstery is contrasted by the roughness of the backrest. A complex whole veined with a powerful expressionist element, but balanced by an intriguing exoticism.
The wooden structure is veneered with various woods that form a chromatic and atonal whole. The upholstered seat is covered with a hand painted fabric inspired by Giacomo Balla’s 1920 oil on canvas Science Against Obscurantism.
The backrest, dominated by two great spires, has a crosspiece in lathe-turned brass from which a series of brass and silver “sabres” project. The crosspiece is connected to a backrest formed by a series of four “necklaces” in silver-plated brass and Murano glass.
