Title
Snobbishness of Kitsch22/08/2011
armchair for literary journeys
An armchair for an imaginary journey, built with a complex structure in wrought and forged iron. A twofold frame which, as in springy 19th century carriages, gives the passenger an unexpected sensation of comfort. It’s a self-referential object, in fact the name of the chair, Snobbishness of Kitsch, can be read on the two sides as a structural element.
Special care was taken with the brass crosspieces masterfully turned on the lathe and then nickel-plated. Lastly, all the metal structures were treated with a process of acidulation and oxidation.
The seat and the tip-up backrest are in capitonné. Upholstered in the traditional manner, with strips, wadding and springs, they are covered with green naturally tanned hide, as in early first class railway carriages.
The great armrests, obtained from two solid blocks of old walnut, are a tribute to the Bolidist Movement.
The trunk at the rear, in leather-faced walnut, is reinforced with iron edging and is closed by means of two leather straps with metal buckles.
